What is a violin?
The violin is a stringed musical instrument belonging to a family that consists of the viola, the bass viol and the cello. It is a hollow instrument with a long neck and four perfectly tuned strings. Violins are usually made out of maple or spruce. The violin has several parts consisting of a bridge, sound post, peg box, fingerboard, chin rest, bass bar, tailpiece, back and sound holes. Sound is produced by drawing the bow against the strings.
